3.4 Sound Editor Window (ORANGE):

Zoomed in visual of the selected region for more detailed editing. The editor window can only display one region at the time.



To access the editor window:

  1. In the timeline, double click on an audio region.
  2. To close and reopen, go to VIEW > SOUND EDITOR or press Command + 3.


The Sound Editor Window provides 6 inserts, a gain and pitch fader and a pan knob.


To open the Plug-in Window, click on the green dot next to the insert slot.



Under the gain and pitch faders, you will find the tempo of the region selected.


The “Set BPM” box allows you to change the bpm of the original file.


On the top of this window you can locate the file on your device by clicking on the double arrow next to the file name.


The commands at the bottom of the window will expand or reduce the length of the region and change the value of the grid with the quarter note drop down menu.

  

The Sound Editor Window allows you to operate multiple functions provided by the File menu. Some of these functions are:


Add sync markers:

  1. Place the cursor where you want to add a marker.
  2. Go to File > Create A Sync Marker or press M
  3. Go to File > Save Markers or press Option + Command + S
  4. The markers will be automatically added to the region in the timeline.


To delete any marker in the sound editor click on one or highlight multiple markers with the arrow and hit “Delete” from your keyboard.

 

Create a boundary marker: Setting boundary markers will create divisions in a stem should you wish to. These divisions serve as automatic cut points when using the Divide command (Command + D)

  1. Place the cursor where you want to add a boundary marker.
  2. Go to File >  Create Boundary Marker or press Shift + M. 
  3. Go to File > Save Markers or press Option + Command + S
  4. The markers will be automatically added to the region in the timeline.
  5. To separate stems by the boundary markers, press Command + D.


Create Element markers from selection: Element markers are brackets that surround a chosen portion of a region to create a new element.

  1. Make a selection on the audio region by dragging the arrow to highlight a section.  
  2. Go to File >  Create Element markers from selection or press U.
  3. Go to File > Save Markers or press Option + Command + S
  4. The markers will be automatically added to the region in the timeline.
  5. To separate them by the markers, press Command + D.


Save as a clip: You can always save the region that you have edited as an individual clip. To do so:

  1. Go to File > Save as a clip.
  2. The finder window will open in order to select your destination and rename your clip.


Send To Timeline (Option + Command + S): This option allows you to send a selection made within the audio file to the timeline as an individual file.


Bounce (Option + B): You can bounce the audio file as a .wav file by using this command.


The Edit drop down menu provides you with basic edit functions such as adding fades, crop and reverse.


The Snap drop down menu allows you  to choose the movement of the cursor between subdivision or beat.


The Sound Editor window has its own transport commands, allowing you to go back to the beginning, playback, loop and zoom with the zoom slider.




The Slip Tool allows you to adjust the in and out points of a region at the same time, by the same amount and in the same direction without modifying the length of the selected section.


The Link Tool helps you to locate the region in the timeline that matches the region in the sound editor
